Last evening, more than 70 people gathered in the classroom of Empower Fitness to raise money for the 2015 NAMI Mercer Walk. We played bingo, socialized, ate home-baked goodies, and had fun. All prizes and refreshments and bingo supplies were donated by Empower Fitness members and friends. 100% of our bingo profits are donated to NAMI Mercer. We played 19 games of bingo with prizes including massages, a Magic Bullet, and lunch with Councilman Steve Brame (which, by the way, was won by a Ewing Township resident!). We even talked a bit about NAMI Mercer and the NAMI Walk…
NAMI and the NAMI Mercer Walk
NAMI, National Alliance on Mental Illness, is the largest grassroots mental health organization in the country. It is devoted to support, educate, and advocate for those people and their families affected by mental illness. And, as is commonly noted, we ALL know someone who is affected with the disease of mental illness and the suffering and pain that usually accompanies it. NAMI Mercer is the affiliate that serves people who reside in Mercer County, New Jersey; its services are FREE for all. The NAMI Mercer Walk is its largest fundraiser with a 2015 goal of raising $150,000. The NAMI Mercer Walk is being held on Saturday, May 2 at 10:00am at ETS in Princeton.
Empower Fitness and NAMI Mercer
Empower Fitness has been a supporter of NAMI Mercer for several years. This is our fifth year of organizing an Empower Fitness Walk Team, co-led by me (Joan Brame) and Rorie Parrella, which is supported by many Empower Fitness gym members and their families. Over $10,000 has been donated by Empower Fitness and its members to NAMI Mercer for all the great work it does to support our loved-ones and neighbors in Mercer County. I think that most of us at Empower Fitness believe that spending our time and resources to help others also helps to nourish our own spirits and support our good health and wellness.
